Occasional freezing when changing channels

Occasional freezing when changing channels

Postby theeggman » Tue Jan 10, 2012 4:07 am

Hi

I've had my TBS5980 for a few days and am having problems with the tuner freezing sometimes when changing channels in MCE/WMC(win 7 64 bit). This might happen once every 15 channel changes, and occurs when changing channels via the guide or by the arrow buttons on a standard MCE remote. The current channel will freeze, and not recover. No other function works and the only way to recover is to press the hibernate button on the remote, and restart from hibernation. I don't need to do a hard reset.

In a related question, the freezing will often occur a few seconds after the LED changes. What does this LED signify, I can't find any answer in the manuals or other forums? I don't know if this is related to the problem I'm experiencing, but would like to know what the different colours mean.

I've installed the latest driver from the website.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi

I have the same problem I am using MediaPortal TVServer 1.2.2 and XBMC-PVR 11.0. When I navigate via the guide or by the arrow buttons on a standard MCE remote, I have the same problem. I think Is related with TBS 5980, because I have also Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-5500 and with this card nothing like this occurs.

Any idea what is the reason.

Best regards,

I've think I've managed to sort my problem now, it's gone two days without freezing, when it's never gone more than an hour or so previously.

I had been using an original old WMC remote with an HP IR receiver. I've swapped to using the HP remote with the same receiver, and just to be extra sure that no IR interferance could occur, I also covered the built-in IR reciever on the tuner. No crashes or freezes since then, it's just worked very well! Fingers crossed that' solved it once and for all. I don't know whether it was down to using a different make of remote & IR receiver, or the tuner's receiver interfering with things, but if your troubles are exactly as mine are described, try something similar. I was a bit misleading in my original post, as the freezing occured when navigating menus rather than when actually changing a channel.
