Remote with driver v120216 and Kernel v3.2.7

I have a TBS6280 card working great with a combined MythTV FE/BE.
However I still need to set up a satisfactory IR remote solution. Before I attempt it.... should I be able to install lirc and get the bundled IR receiver working with the latest drivers on a v3.2 Kernel, or is it still not working?
