Getting BSODs by using my DVB-S-Card with certain software

Hello,

I recently bought my TBS 6922 DVB-S-card and I'm getting BSODs when I'm trying to use it in ProgDVB x64 and WinLirc.
First, my operating system is Windows 8 64bit and I installed the 1.0.1.3 driver-version.
When I install and start ProgDVB x64 v6.x, I'm getting a BSOD: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP.
At this moment I'm getting by with the 32bit version of ProgDVB and so far I encountered no serious problems.
Secondly, I can't use WinLirc to get my remote to work with ProgDVB. I can start WinLirc and even assign a name to every button and therefore creating a config file. But when I hit the enter-key to finish the assignment, a BSOD shows up and I have to restart my computer. I can get WinLirc to work with the help of the instructions and the config-file from this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=42&t=7670

The remote than works in ProgDVB. However, when I try to close the Winlirc application, which Windows does automatically when I attempt to shutdown or restart my computer, I get a BSOD, which either shows "ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY" or "REFERENCE_BY_POINTER".

Before i installed this DVB-S-card, I used the DVB-S-card "Tevii S471" on the same machine. The second card never caused a BSOD. I could use my remote and ProgDVB x64 properly.
So the odds that another application or device in my computer is causing my problems are pretty slim in my opinion, because my previous DVB-S-card worked fine.
In conclusion: my best guess is, that the driver for my TBS 6922 is causing the problems described above. I tried two driver-versions, 1.0.1.2 and 1.0.1.3 and got the same results.

Furthermore I found a thread on this forum, in which a user talks about an attempt to use his remote with WinLirc 0.9e and getting a system crash when he shuts down windows while WinLirc is still running:

In another thread, a user got also BSODs while trying to get his TBS DVB-S-card working in Windows 7 64bit.

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1161&p=4759&hilit=bsod#p4759

So the driver causing BSODs seems not to be a new problem and I think there should be some major improvements in the next driver-version to solve this problem.

I would also appreciate it when someone could provide a solution, so I could at least use Winlirc without getting BSODs. The IR-application works properly, but I always have to change the focus to ProgDVB to use my remote. This can get pretty annoying when I'm working in another application and once in a while want to change the channel or adjust the volume for example.

Thanks

Hello,

I have one question. Does anybody have a TBS 6922 and can get the remote to work with WinLirc in either Windows 7 x64 or Windows 8 x64?

Hello,

what operating system are you using? And what is the version of your WinLirc application?

Hi SoldierDi

Would you mind having a test with this new beta test driver:

and send your test report here.

Kind Regards

Hi Steven,

thanks for the new driver. I have just installed it and so far I haven't seen a single BSOD regarding WinLirc. I can now close the application properly, without getting a BSOD.
I also tested the newest version of ProgDVB x64(v6.91.4) and got a BSOD like before, saying "UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP".
But I'm happy, that I can use my remote now.
ProgDVB x86 is still working fine.

Hello,

thanks for your help so far, Steven. But I've returned my TBS 6922 back to Amazon. Now I bought a Hauppauge Starburst HD and I'm extremely satisfied with my new DVB-S-card. No problems with ProgDVB x64 and my new remote.
You may close this thread, because my problems are "solved" now.

So long.
