A (ya)vdr 1.7x issue

Could not get TBS6980 working with vdr (and with yavdr) 1.7.10 and 1.7.14, with the both v1.54 and v1.88 linux drivers.

So, I just wonder, if it is because of the fact that TBS6980 linux drivers delivered in a binary (pre-compiled) form, but not as "open source" one (there is an option in the vdr's Make.config file, where you can define the path to DVB card drivers directory).

Do You have any plans to cooperate with vdr and yavdr developers teams to solve that issue out?

Than You in advance.

WBR,
Mikhail.

hi Mikhail,

the reason you can't get VDR working is something else, because vdr's Make.config file just need the path to V4L header files and TBS 6980 is working without issues with VDR. in fact, very small part of the current Linux driver for TBS 6980 is not-open-source and it's a binary module instead and the reason for that is because TBS 6980 uses some very new chips (actually, it's the only product on the market that is using the latest second generation of DVB-S2 chips made by NXP/Conexant) and more specific what we can't open-source at this point in time, for number of reasons, and that part of the driver is a binary module, is the driver for the DVB-S2 front-end (DVB-S2 tuner + demodulator), but the rest of the driver is fully open source.
