Hi there,
the tbs6981 works very well but i found in the messages.log the following entrys:
Oct 27 19:51:30 vdr kernel: [ 13.881027] IRQ 18/cx23885[0]: IRQF_DISABLED is not guaranteed on shared IRQs
and
Oct 27 20:32:58 vdr kernel: [ 2501.406917] ata1: hard resetting link
Oct 27 20:33:01 vdr kernel: [ 2504.570358] ata1: SATA link up 3.0 Gbps (SStatus 123 SControl 300)
Oct 27 20:33:01 vdr kernel: [ 2504.581873] ata1.00: configured for UDMA/133
Oct 27 20:33:01 vdr kernel: [ 2504.581885] ata1: EH complete
The ata1 hard resets follow in ca 2000 secs and from time to time when i switch to a hd channel. Is there a context to the above 'cx23885[0]: IRQF_DISABLED ' and the ata resets or is it another problem of my system?
greetings
Michael

hi Michael,
i also have "cx23885[0]: IRQF_DISABLED is not guaranteed on shared IRQs" on my system and i haven't noticed any ata resets on my system, but after your report i will pay more attention. so, at least at the moment in my opinion there is no connection between "cx23885[0]: IRQF_DISABLED" and ata resets or if there is such connection it's limited to your system.
regards,
cody

thanks for your response cody,
my main idea is now the nvidia graphic card driver. I found hints about nvidia and sata resets within a google search.
Have a nice day

btw,
last evening, i unplugged both satellite cables from the tbs card and done a reboot with my HTPC. This time, there were no sata resets in the message log, until i plug in one satellite cable into one on the tbs receivers. This is no evidence that there is problem with the tbs card or driver, it can be, but even in the graphic card, when there is coming up a high data rate.
I will test a newer nvidia driver version and post you the results.
Cheers
Michael

Michael, one thing that came to my mind we could try is to increase some buffers inside the driver, which will lower the frequency of generated IRQs by the TBS card (actually by CX23885 driver). also, we can try using MSI instead legacy IRQ. however, for both ideas you have to wait for me to find spare time to prepare such test drivers. please, keep me informed if in the mean time you noticed or found something new.

Hi cody,
thanks for your thoughts and help, but i found the reason for the sata resets inside my system. It's an easy and really silly one

:

The 60 W power supply of my vdr-case is too small. I changed the supply temporarily against a 400 W one, and ----> the whole system is working without any sata resets.
The power consumption of the vdr system is in the middle 40 ~ 45 W, but during startup, i see some peaks up to 60 W. There is a high current needed when the sat receiver starts and shifts the quad switch inside the LNB.
I will change the case and power supply and system should works well (i hope so

).
Thanks and good times
Michael
