TBS 6909 - Issues - Opensource Driver

ignoring my previous threads - and starting a fresh..

I'm on my second card as it was assumed the first one was faulty.

i currently use a tbs twin tuner and a single tuner in a VM in ESXI. Using PCI Passthrough. Works fine.

I decided to get a cheaper power efficient T20 dell server with quad core xeon.. unfortunately it wasn't compatible with the old cards due to pci 1.0a not being supported on the motherboard..

so i purchased a 6909.. long story short, could not get it working on a standalone machine using the proprietory drivers and on 2 different ESXI servers (home lab type - gaming mb in one, and T20 Dell in the other).. had tbs support remotely connect, and eventually tried the open source drivers.

no luck.. card replaced and now i'm at the same state.

i'm using ubuntu 14.04, fresh install, opensource drivers, and 6909 passedthrough.

i'm getting spam when ubuntu starts saying -

TBSECP3 Driver 0000:0b:00:0: i2c xfer timeout

and lspci/dsmeg

any help greatly appreciated.

The tbs proprietary driver works 1% of the time.. but freezes and neither mode works properly.

ignoring the modes, i will leave it connected to 1 satellite with 4 inputs (quad lnb)..

Thanks Steven,

it's the identical problem as with the previous card.

is anyone else using ubuntu 14.04 with this card?

-
(i'm andy from emails)

here is the message received from you last time when i provided remote ssh from your IP.
"Already login in and checked reinstall the latest open soure but find that the 6909 ECP3 pci-e bridge I2C is crash need to power off
we use some command to let it auto power on after 3 minutes but it failed"

I've put the card in my Dell T20 now (with fresh ubuntu install), were as previously it was in a high-end gaming motherboard. So as not to cause interruption to my current TV setup, i'm using the dell for this card... and it has the same issue.

I have used the firmware file as suggested and same issue.

Wondering if there is some bios settings that need switching, although i can't find any on this board

it seems the card doesn't not work in ESXI with the opensource driver.

I hope this can be fixed.

For now i have got it working in mode 1 on a physcial machine (the same one i was using with ESXI).

Thanks to support for their patience.

There is some problems with mode 0 but i believe this are software related with tvheadend.. i'll make a post about it later

just an update that i have this all working perfectly now.

I'm happy with the purchase of the 6909. Amazing Card...

in tvheadend - set each even tuner as a slave to the previous card. but, you must also disable OTA EPG for the slave tuners, as if they are doing an epggrab, tvheadend won't override the master tuner. this is a minor bug i'd say with tvheadend.

the issue i had here was that the card doesn't work with PAssthrough on ESXI (Virtual Machine software)
