TBS6985: General Query

Postby ersehmi » Mon Jan 13, 2014 6:39 pm

Hi Team,

I am new to this forum, and I have just bought TBS6985 TV Tuner Card. And first thing I would like to say it is a wonderful product by TBS.

I have a query. The card is supplied with one power cable connector with it. Please see the image below, this is card along with PSU to Card Connector Cable.

At one end, there is a small connector and at other end there are three 4x molexs (that fits into PSU 4x molex).

Is it really required to connect this power connector to TBS6985?

What is the power consumption of TBS6985 when all the tuners are working simultaneously?

And if it is really required to power the card using the supplied connector, then out of three connectors which has to be connected with PSU side connector.

Or, do I need to insert all the three connectors with PSU connectors.

Please confirm!

Thanks & Regards,
ErSehmi

If your drawing full amperage (usually 200-500ma) on all four tuners, then the pcie bus just cant supply that kind of power, esp since its up'd to 18v from 12v. So yes the external power should be connected.

If all the connectors are the same then connect any of them

Also, please confirm me, is power cable connection required if I use only 1 or 2 tuners?
