Just to help others that may be in the same situation, I just ran:

> sudo mv /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/media ~/media.bak
> sudo make install
> sudo reboot


After reboot the card was detected as normal.

Hi, after upgrading Ubuntu to latest kernel 3.8 the TBS 6981 card isn't recognized at startup. It's listed as a PCI-device (using lspci -nnk) but there is no mention of it in dmesg and /dev/dvb/ isn't created.
